The AUM adheres to the mission statement of the Institute for Medical Education (link).   The AUM is a centre of competence for teaching and media, serving the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern and others (University of Bern, Switzerland, international). The AUM provides support for medical instruction and the corresponding infrastructure in a variety of ways. Our competences range from advising on medical didactics to project design and management and the technical implementation of complex, internet-based information systems. Within this framework, we actively facilitate, promote and foster research and development activities as well as services having to do with teaching. 

We offer expertise and services in a variety of fields:

• We offer state of the art knowledge in the field of medical education to the Faculty of Medicine.
• We introduce new teaching methods on a pilot basis and evaluate their success.
• We plan and actively participate in different courses.

• One of the primary goals of our department is developing professional multimedia applications to impart course content in manner that motivates the student and promotes learning.
• From mid-2005 to the end of 2007 we worked on the construction and operation of a virtual campus, a centre of competence for the entire university, to promote networking

• Through research and development, we advance and disseminate new knowledge on the educational theory and practical applications of multimedia and e-learning.
• We test the effectiveness of new teaching methods.

• We continuously develop further expertise in the field of information technology.
• Major development projects take place after all needs have been thoroughly assessed, taking into account existing solutions and using the resources available. Project management is of great importance.

We provide various services of the highest quality for the Faculty of Medicine and other educational institutions in the field of health care. We will expand these services as necessary.

Our services include:  

• Scientific graphics, poster design, design of brochures / flyers
• Web design, learning platforms with discussion forums, server support
• Professional video production and documentation
• Operation of the Learning Center on Murtenstrasse
• Operation of the Bernese Interdisciplinary Skill and Simulated Patients Center (BiSS)
• Creating, editing and publishing podcasts of most of the lectures held in the human medicine curriculum
• Production and international distribution of medical learning programmes on CD-ROM and DVD
