Medical students who are more interested in didactics than in research can complete what is known as a "media dissertation" in the AUM. In the past this led to the development of countless learning programmes for individual use. Initially these took the form of slide shows with voiceovers and instructional films, then CD-ROM based instructional media. Today internet-based learning programmes are the norm (see also Ongoing dissertations).
